Breast Reduction in Portland
Although many women desire larger breasts, there are also many women who are frustrated with breasts that are too large. Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure that reduces excess breast fat, tissue, and skin in order to achieve a more proportionate breast size. The board-certified plastic surgeons at Portland Plastic Surgery Group perform breast reduction for Portland, Oregon, women who are seeking relief from the physical and emotional burden of overly large breasts.
Your Breast Reduction
Breast reduction can do more than just reduce the size of large breasts – by reducing size, it may also:
- Relieve back, neck, and shoulder pain
- Reduce sagging and stretched skin
- Improve self-esteem
- Achieve more balanced, proportionate body contours
- Allow comfortable participation in a variety of physical activities
- Enhance confidence in a variety of clothing choices
- Promote the healing of rashes under breasts and grooves on shoulders from bra straps

Procedure & Recovery
In addition to other methods, our surgeons perform “short scar” breast reduction. This method can achieve results with less scarring than other techniques; however, not all surgeons have the education or experience to offer the short scar option.
With the short scar technique of breast reduction, incisions are made around the areola, then directly downward to the breast crease. This method of breast reduction does not make a horizontal incision along the breast crease, causing less scarring than other breast reduction methods. It is with the use of this incision (often compared to a lollipop) that excess breast skin and tissue are reduced.
After your breast reduction, bandages will reduce breast movement, to protect your results and reduce discomfort. After the bandages have been taken off, a special surgical bra must be worn. You will be instructed to avoid strenuous activity for several weeks. Although the healing process differs from patient to patient, following instructions after surgery can help ensure a quick, comfortable, and complete recovery from breast reduction.Back to Top
