Lip Lift Surgery

What Is a Lip Lift Procedure?

Patients who want to increase the visibility of the pink part of their lips to enhance their appearance are good candidates for a lip lift. By lifting the upper lip and reducing the amount of distance between the nose and upper lip, a lip lift helps expose more of the vermillion of the upper lip, adding greater balance to your lower face and smile.

A lip lift does not create the fullness or additional lip volume that is often achieved with injectable dermal fillers.  The results of a lip lift tend to be more natural looking but can often be complemented with dermal fillers for a full lip augmentation to add volume to your lips if desired.

For lip lift patients, it is important to discuss your desired outcomes with your provider during your consultation. Our surgeons focus on achieving natural-looking results that will help balance your facial features and enhance your overall appearance, and our goal is to ensure a satisfactory result for our patients.

Lip Lift Procedure and Recovery

A lip lift is a surgical procedure that requires removing a small amount of excess skin below the nose to lift and enhance the appearance of the upper lip. A lip lift can help create greater visual balance between facial features, helping enhance your appearance subtly and naturally.

A lip lift procedure is performed using local anesthesia in our office. The procedure usually takes about 1 hour to complete. The incision is made just below the nose and is designed to lift the center and corners of the lip to improve the appearance of the upper lip.

After your lip lift surgery, your upper lip area will be swollen and slightly bruised for a few days. There will be sutures in the treated area that you will need to care for. They are usually removed within 5 to 7 days following surgery.

Your surgeon will prescribe over-the-counter pain medicine to help ease discomfort.

We recommend avoiding strenuous activities for 2 weeks and waiting 1 to 2 weeks before returning to work or attending social activities following surgery.

Lip Reduction Surgery

What Is a Lip Reduction?

For patients who feel their upper or lower lips are too full, lip reduction surgery is a procedure that helps reduce the fullness of the lips to achieve greater symmetry and balance of the lower face. Lip reduction can be performed on the upper or lower lip, or both, depending on your needs.

By removing a small portion of tissue from the inside of the upper and/or lower lips, the amount of exposed vermillion of the lip is reduced, decreasing the width and height of the lips, giving your face a more balanced appearance.

Lip Reduction Procedure and Recovery

At Portland Plastic Surgery Group, we recommend discussing your goals for lip reduction surgery with your provider during your consultation. Our goal is to help you achieve the look you want, with natural-looking results, to ensure facial balance and patient satisfaction.

A lip reduction procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about 1 hour per lip to complete. The incision is made inside the lip to remove a small portion of excess skin and reshape one or both lips.

After your lip reduction procedure, you can expect to experience some swelling and bruising in the treated area. This should decrease within a few days, and your provider will prescribe pain medication to reduce discomfort. The dissolvable sutures usually dissolve within 5 to 7 days after surgery.

You should avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks after your procedure, and our providers recommend waiting 1 to 2 weeks before returning to work or social activities to allow your incisions to heal properly.
