CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting at our Portland, Oregon, practice is an innovative body contouring procedure that works by cooling areas of stubborn excess fat from the outside. This FDA-cleared procedure can reduce those annoying bulges without surgery, incisions, or downtime.

Your CoolSculpting Treatment

CoolSculpting is an exciting nonsurgical alternative to liposuction that helps reduce those “hard to lose” fatty deposits. If you can pinch an inch of fat around your abdomen or thighs, you may be a good candidate. With our CoolMini™ applicator, we can use CoolSculpting to reduce fat under the chin. KYBELLA® treatments are another nonsurgical option for treating a double chin.

How CoolSculpting Works

CoolSculpting works by delivering intense cold energy to targeted areas of your body where you have stubborn fat that is unaffected by diet and exercise, such as the midsection, flanks, and thighs. Fat cells are more vulnerable to cold than other kinds of tissue, so they are damaged by the low temperatures while other areas remain totally unharmed. The fat cells die off over the course of a few months and the body naturally flushes them away, gradually slimming treated areas.

Procedure & Recovery

A CoolSculpting session requires about 1 to 2 hours of relaxing in our comfortable treatment room. We apply the CoolSculpting device to your problem area, and it vacuum suctions your bulging tissue between cooling plates. The area feels cold for about 5 minutes, after which it will become numb and you can sit back and read, relax, or even nap. At the end of the treatment cycle, we massage the site for 2 to 3 minutes. You are free to return to work or exercise that day, as no downtime is required.

Over the following few days to weeks, you may experience some achiness, numbness, or itchiness in the area that was treated. This is typically easily tolerated without the need for pain medication.

As the fat cells die and your body breaks them down, you will likely begin to notice a change in your body contour in that area. The previous bulge will smooth out, leaving you with a sleeker shape. This process typically takes approximately 2 to 3 months. Sometimes a repeat treatment is needed to reach your goals, and it is perfectly safe to retreat an area. Occasionally, if we know this will be required, we can treat the same area twice on the first treatment day.
