About Forehead Reduction Surgery

Adults with a high hairline or large forehead with little to no hair loss may be good candidates for forehead reduction surgery. This procedure can help create greater balance to the face, helping to soften and feminize the features and bring symmetry to your appearance.

During your consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, your provider will assess your forehead skin, scalp, hairline, and facial measurements to determine the best treatment to address your concerns and help you achieve the appearance you desire. It is important to ensure that your skin has good laxity to perform the surgery successfully and your hair has enough density to cover any incisions required for the surgery. Your provider will perform a full assessment to ensure you are a good candidate for forehead reduction surgery.

Procedure & Recovery

Forehead reduction surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. The incision is made within the hairline to follow the natural curve of your hairline, allowing your surgeon to hide the scar within the hair. The scalp skin is brought forward and the excess skin on the forehead is removed, resulting in a shorter forehead.

Forehead reduction surgery is often performed in combination with brow lift surgery. This procedure reduces lines and wrinkles in the forehead and lifts and repositions the brows, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

After your forehead reduction procedure, you can expect to have some soreness and swelling along the incision for 2 to 3 weeks, which can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Your provider will recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity for at least 2 weeks following surgery to allow your body to recover and reduce swelling. You can resume most normal activities within 2 weeks and can return to work within a few days.
