CoolSculpting®: The Areas You Didn’t Know You Could Treat

When patients ask about CoolSculpting at our Portland practice, they’re most commonly interested in how effective the treatment will be at slimming down their abdomen and thighs. However, the body contouring treatment is capable of sculpting so much more than just these areas, and we want patients to be aware of the other possibilities.

What is CoolSculpting and how does it work? The noninvasive procedure destroys fat cells through targeted freezing, safely eliminating much of the targeted fat per session. While the abdomen and thighs are often the biggest concerns for patients, the reality is nearly any pocket of fatty tissue in the body can be addressed with CoolSculpting, as long as the patient is a good candidate for it.

In this blog post, we’ll review a few areas you may not have known CoolSculpting can treat, and how you can discuss your options and your next appointment.

Overlooked Treatment Areas

Sometimes called the “bra bulge,” the area between the armpit and the bra line is a great example of a lesser-known treatment area. Often accentuated by tight sports bras, this pocket is most popular with women who are inspired by the growing fitspo and athleisure trend. Slimming down this area with CoolSculpting may help your clothes fit better and play a role in the creation of a more streamlined silhouette overall.

Thanks to a specialized applicator called the CoolMini™, we can now treat even smaller areas. Fat underneath the chin or just above the knee responds especially well to this more precise treatment.

What to Expect

Each CoolSculpting treatment takes about an hour and causes minimal, if any, discomfort. The device will cool each targeted area until it becomes numb, at which point you will be free to comfortably relax, read, or even nap as the machine works. When the treatment is over, we will massage the area for 2 to 3 minutes to warm it back up, which may cause a tingling or thawing feeling. And you’ll be able to return to your normal activities right away.

It typically takes about 2 to 3 months for the destroyed fat cells to metabolize out of the body, revealing your new shape. Many patients opt for 2 to 3 treatments to make sure their goals are fully achieved.

While there are multiple nonsurgical options for fat removal, CoolSculpting has remained a favorite choice of treatment for its minimal discomfort, lack of downtime, and long-lasting results. Our team of doctors is ready to meet with you for a personal consultation and discuss your options for treating specific areas.
