Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

Men and women struggling with hair loss or aging, rough skin may benefit from platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy at our Portland, OR, practice. PRP is blood plasma enriched with your body’s own concentrated platelets. These platelets contain growth factors that stimulate healing and regeneration, making them highly beneficial for both hair growth and skin rejuvenation. At Portland Plastic Surgery Group, we offer PRP treatments for those looking to give their skin and hair health a natural boost.

In addition to traditional PRP, we also offer PRFM, platelet-rich fibrin matrix, the most advanced PRP technology available. PRFM requires less blood and results in a higher concentration of platelets with white blood cells and stem cells to help stimulate even greateer collagen production.

PRP and PRFM are considered safe, natural treatments because rather than using a synthetic substance, they use cells and growth factors from your own blood to slow and even reverse the aging process. As we age, less collagen is produced causing sagging, wrinkles and soft tissue depressions in the skin. PRP and PRFM counteract aging by stimulating new collagen production in the exact areas of concern where we want the skin to repair and rejuvenate itself.

What PRP & PRFM Treat

Hair Restoration

PRP and PRFM therapy combat hair loss caused by genetics, stress, nutrition deficiencies, and other factors in both men and women. Injecting PRP or PRFM into the scalp stimulates stem cells and promotes the generation of new tissue. This encourages the hair follicles to re-enter the growth phase of the hair cycle, producing new hair and filling in thinning areas. PRP and PRFM hair restoration are effective and affordable alternatives to hair transplant surgery.

Facial Rejuvenation

When applied to the face, PRP and PRFM can noticeably reduce skin concerns including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dark spots
  • Large pores
  • Scars
  • Dry skin
  • Rough texture or sun damage
  • Uneven skin coloration

Similar results can be achieved with certain laser treatments and specialized skin care services.

How PRP & PRFM Therapies Work

To start the process, a trained member of our medical staff draws blood from the patient. We then spin the blood in a centrifuge to remove impurities and separate the platelets and fibrin from the rest of the blood. PRP uses a higher speed to separate the blood than PRFM, which spins slower and allows the fibrin to remain in the solution. Once we have our PRP or PRFM solution, we inject it directly into the determined treatment area.

Combining With Microneedling

We can enhance the effectiveness of PRP and PRFM by combining the treatments with microneedling. By creating tiny punctures in your skin’s surface, microneedling both stimulates the natural production of collagen and allows for the deeper absorption of a topical PRP or PRFM serum applied directly afterward. This approach can be used on both the face and scalp.

Recovery & Results

PRP and PRFM therapies on their own require little to no recovery time. You may experience some redness or swelling around the injection sites for a day or two. Microneedling recovery is slightly longer. Redness, swelling, and bruising are typical during the first 3 days, and it’s important to limit sun exposure and abrasive skin treatments during this time.

For hair restoration, you can expect to see new hair growth in about 6 months. We recommend 2 to 3 treatments spaced about 3 months apart for best results. After skin rejuvenation treatments, you’ll likely see stronger, healthier, more even skin develop over the next few weeks.

PRP Therapy Cost

  • Microneedling with PRP | $475
  • Hair restoration with PRP (1 tube) | $450
  • Hair restoration with PRP (2 tubes) | $600
