Your BOTOX Treatment

BOTOX is a non-surgical injectable that treats the lines and wrinkles that contribute to a sad or tired appearance. For Portland, Oregon women and men, BOTOX may help improve moderate to severe wrinkles and lines. BOTOX treats the following:

  • Crow's feet
  • Laugh lines
  • Frown lines
  • Lines around the lips
  • Forehead lines

Our board-certified plastic surgeons supervise all the injectors at Portland Plastic Surgery Group. In some cases, our surgeons may recommend that BOTOX injections be combined with surgical procedures, such as facelifts and eyelid surgery.

Combining Fillers With BOTOX

Fine lines and wrinkles that develop around the eyes and forehead are typically not the only signs of aging that concern our patients. The loss of facial volume in the cheeks and around the mouth, along with thinning lips, may appear more pronounced after getting BOTOX injections. That's why we often recommend combining BOTOX with dermal fillers when appropriate.

Fillers work differently than BOTOX. We use fillers from the Restylane and JUVÉDERM product lines. These gels have various consistencies and are formulated using hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance occurs naturally in the body as molecules that absorb water. Fillers temporarily replace the volume lost as part of the natural aging process.

When you come in for a consultation, our providers closely examine your entire face and can create a custom treatment plan that involves BOTOX, fillers, and even other nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatments, such as laser skin procedures. The results of filler treatments last longer than BOTOX injections, ranging between 9 months and 2 years (depending on the type of filler used.)

Procedure & Recovery

With the use of a very fine needle, BOTOX is injected into the underlying facial muscles to inhibit the muscle contractions that cause unwanted lines and wrinkles. BOTOX causes these muscles to relax, leading to skin that appears smoother and tighter. Through a series of small injections, this treatment temporarily reduces wrinkles and lines for about 3 to 6 months. The procedure is fast and requires minimal downtime; in fact, many patients are able to receive treatment on their lunch hour, and can return to work almost immediately.

The effects of a BOTOX treatment may be seen as soon as a few days after treatment, making it fast and effective. Because BOTOX is not permanent, it is recommended that treatments get repeated every few months for optimal facial rejuvenation.
