Skin Cancer Reconstruction

Skin cancer reconstruction at Portland Plastic Surgery Group helps patients who are left with scars or deformities following skin cancer removal to enjoy a newfound sense of normalcy and self-confidence. Although today's options for treating skin cancer are generally very successful, they may leave behind scars that serve as unpleasant reminders of the disease. Our team of board-certified plastic surgeons looks forward to helping you get back to feeling like yourself.

Our doctors are experienced in reconstruction of both aesthetically and functionally sensitive parts of the body, including the:

  • Nose

Procedure & Recovery

At our practice, each skin cancer reconstruction surgery is meticulously tailored to the patient's specific needs. Most skin cancer reconstruction surgeries are performed in-office under local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure may take between 1 and 3 hours, depending on factors such as the size and part of the body involved.

In some cases, the edges of the wound may simply be closed together and fastened with sutures. For larger wounds, skin grafts or flaps may be more effective. During your consultation, your surgeon carefully explains the best course of action for you to ensure you have a complete understanding of all aspects of your procedure.

For most patients, sutures stay in place for about 1 week following surgery. Depending on the location of the wound, you may return to work in a couple of days. Our doctors work hard to optimize the healing process and improve the appearance of these surgical sites to minimize scarring and deformity. With proper postoperative care, including practicing strict sun protection habits, your surgical incisions should eventually fade to discreet scars.
