Facelift

Aging, excessive sun exposure, smoking, and fluctuations in weight are all factors that contribute to an older appearance. Also, skin on the face and neck may lose elasticity and firmness, causing wrinkles and fine lines. A facelift in Portland, Oregon, performed by one of our board-certified plastic surgeons can help you look noticeably younger and refreshed, but not like someone else.

If you are considering a facelift at Portland Plastic Surgery Group, request a consultation online with one of our plastic surgeons or call our office at (503) 292-9200.

Your Facelift

Our surgeons perform facelift surgery for women and men who are typically in their 40s to 70s. This procedure improves the appearance of the lower two-thirds of the face and is often combined with a neck lift. Benefits of a facelift may include:

  • Providing a refreshed, rejuvenated appearance
  • Tightening the underlying facial and neck muscles
  • Smoothing away folds and wrinkles on the cheeks
  • Reducing excess fat on the cheeks, jawline, and neck

If you would like to rejuvenate your eye area as well, ask your surgeon about combining your facelift with eyelid surgery.

Modern Facelift Techniques

Our plastic surgeons are skilled in personalizing the latest facelift techniques for a range of patient needs. Most procedures begin with one of the following techniques:

  • MACS facelift (for minimal access cranial suspension) is usually best suited for younger patients and those with moderate facial aging. Through only a single incision near each ear, suspension sutures are used to gently reposition facial tissues. This minimally invasive procedure involves shorter incisions and scars than the traditional facelift, as well as reduced procedure and recovery times.
  • Traditional facelift, also called a full or complete facelift, is for patients with more advanced aging of the lower two-thirds of the face. Lax skin, muscle, and tissue are reshaped, lifted, and repositioned for a refreshed appearance. Excess fat and skin are reduced as needed.

Procedure & Recovery

Our plastic surgeons perform facelift procedures at an outpatient surgery center. To perform a facelift, your surgeon makes precise incisions above the hairline and behind the ear. Excess fat is reduced and underlying facial muscles are tightened. Your surgeon then repositions and lifts the skin, then tightens it over the new contours. The length of the procedure depends on which technique is employed and whether the surgery is combined with any other procedure.

Following the procedure, the face will be bandaged in order to decrease recovery time. Many patients may have their sutures taken out in about a week. Depending on the procedure, generally patients can resume normal, light activity in 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. It is important to follow your surgeon's postoperative instructions carefully to speed up your recovery and maximize your results.

Questions About Facelift Surgery

How much does a facelift cost?

The cost for a facelift varies greatly depending on the complexity of the procedure and whether it is combined with other procedures. Our prices are competitive with other practices in the area. We will provide you with a detailed quote when you have your consultation. To optimize your safety and the quality of your results, we recommend choosing a surgeon based on credentials and experience over cost.

Can you help me look younger without surgery?

We offer many non-surgical options for facial rejuvenation that renew the skin, smooth wrinkles, and reduce sagging. Options that target one or more of these concerns include BOTOX® Cosmetic, injectable fillers, and laser skin treatments. We can even combine treatments for a "non-surgical facelift." We can use KYBELLA® injections to reduce a double chin and help your jawline and neck look more refined. Keep in mind that results from non-surgical treatments are not as noticeable and do not last as long as those from facial cosmetic surgery.

Will my results look natural?

Our surgeons use modern facelift techniques that focus on the underlying causes of facial aging such as sagging muscles and tissues instead of just tightening the skin. Their facelift patients look like themselves, only rested and years younger. You will not look as though you've "had work done."

I'm in my 40s and have noticed sagging along my jawline. Am I too young for a facelift?

No. A limited incision facelift such as a MACS facelift is well suited to our younger patients. The benefits include feeling good about your appearance now, minimizing recovery time, and postponing the need for a complete facelift.

When will I be ready to go back to work?

Facelift patients are usually ready to return to work and see friends within 10 to 14 days, after most of the swelling and bruising has faded. If you have multiple procedures, you may need a longer recovery period. While you might feel pretty good within the first week, it will take a bit longer for the swelling and bruising to subside.
